100 000 euros to support the work of multicultural associations: The Moniheli Grant in 2022

In 2022, Moniheli will provide 100 000 euros in grants for the small-scale activities of its member organisations. The theme of the call is "Promoting partnership". In addition to the general call in February-March, we will organise a pilot in cooperation with Diak University of Applied Sciences, where organisations will develop and implement their event together with students.

Moniheli supports the activities of its member organisations with the Moniheli Grant. The grant is intended for small-scale projects that promote integration, inclusion and well-being of migrants and their communities, or good ethnic relations. STEA has been granting to Moniheli transferable funding for member associations since 2016.

By following the application process for the Moniheli grant, member associations can get to know how public funding applications work, and can practice project planning. The application process may seem challenging, but we believe that doing is the best way to learn. We offer different trainings, guidance and "sparring" to every application, so that every application would be at least a good application.

New features for 2022 include a theme for the grant application, and the opportunity for associations needing additional support to participate in a pilot programme in cooperation with Diak to deepen their learning in project planning. The Moniheli Grant will also support cooperation between member organisations in a new way next year.

PARTNERSHIP AS A THEME

Moniheli adopted its new strategy at its autumn meeting in November. The new strategy focuses, among other things, on partnership. We took the strategy into account when choosing the theme for the 2022 call. Applications and proposed activities will be assessed against the theme, among other criteria.

The theme for the 2022 call is Towards Partnership for Integration With the health and social services reform as well as changes in the funding of non-profit organisations, we will need each other to manage in the post-Covid time. Cooperation lets us make the most of each other’s competences. In 2022, we encourage Moniheli’s member associations to plan activities based on at least one of the following principles:

  • Doing together: Activities should promote the sense of community, dialogue between different groups, especially between immigrants and the majority population, or focus on participatory practices.
  • Combining skills: Activities should be based on well-planned cooperation between different associations to make use of each party’s strengths in order to advance a common interest.
  • Developing genuine partnerships: projects should focus on designing and developing long-term cooperation between different actors, or pilot innovative ways of working in partnership.

NEW PILOT PROGRAMME TOGETHER WITH DIAK AMK

In order to provide sufficient support to all grant applicants, including first-time applicants, we will organise a pilot in 2022 for the first time in partnership with Diak University of Applied Sciences. In the pilot, students on the Project Management and Innovation (PMI) course will plan, implement and evaluate their activities together with member organisations. The activities should be one-off in nature or a one-off event or workshop that takes place during the course (19 February - 3 April).

The pilot is intended for member organisations with no or very little previous experience of project planning. The selected organisations will receive a grant of approximately 2 500 euros to carry out the activity together with the students. If the pilot event is a pilot, the organisation can also apply with the same idea to the general call for proposals for the same year. Organisations can receive up to 7 000 euros in total (through the pilot and the general call). The activity must fit in with the purpose and theme of the Moniheli grant.

Participating organisations must commit to attend the next few days of the PMI course on site at the Diak campus in Hermanni, Helsinki:

  • February 7 at 9-15,
  • February 10 at 10-16,
  • February 18th for one hour between 9 and 15 (exact time can be agreed), and
  • April 22 at 9-12.

In addition, on January 25 from 16:30 to 18:30, we will organise an introductory meeting between the selected organisations and students. The event will be online and we hope everyone will attend.

It is recommended that at least two or more people from each organisation attend, so that we can ensure that at least one representative from the organisation attends each of the compulsory days. The PMI course will be conducted in English. Some of the students also speak Finnish, but the representatives of the organisation must understand and speak enough English to participate in the discussions during the course. As the action plan and its reporting are part of the course, they are also in English.

You can apply for the pilot by 23:59 on January 13, 2021 at www.surveymonkey.com/r/MH-Diak-kokeilu-2022We will inform applicants of the selection on 14 January 2021. Julie Breton, Moniheli's Association Manager, will answer any questions regarding the pilot (contact details below).

GENERAL CALL TO OPEN IN FEBRUARY

The general call is open to all Moniheli organisations that do not receive funding directly from STEA. The general call will start in mid-February (exact dates will be announced in our Member Letter) and will end on March 31, 2021. The small projects supported must fit the purpose and theme of the Moniheli Grant and must be carefully planned. Member organisations can receive a maximum total of 7 000 euros. Awarded grants must be used between summer 2022 and autumn 2023. More information on the general call and the new application system will be published in early February, and questions can be asked at an information session on 23 February 2022 from 16:30 to 18.
