The Finnish-Namibian Society, a registered association, aims at strengthening the ties of friendship between Finns and Namibians and promoting cooperation in social, economic and cultural fields. Our main objective is to maintain and increase the knowledge of Namibian issues in Finland and to participate in development cooperation. The Finnish-Namibian Society, established in 1974, is the largest Africa-orientated friendship society in Finland.

We organise activities in Finland, online and in Namibia. These are mostly aimed at enhancing, enabling and maintaining friendships between Finns and Namibians. We also share information about Namibia and living in Finland as well as create platforms to network. T Recent events, often in collaboration with partners, have included panel discussions, film festivals, social gatherings, informative discussions, peer support events, cooking classes, language clubs, workshops, etc.

Our key projects and activities include:

  • Organising the Namibian Film Festival NAM! in Helsinki (2022)
  • Presenting at the Travel fair in January and World Village Festival in May
  • Conducting workshops for women in Windhoek in 2023 with the YWCA of Finland and YWCA of Namibia, focused on empowering women and girls & strengthening the economic base of YWCA Namibia.
  • Hosting activities for Finnish-Namibian families with children and youth.
  • Running Ndonga language club for children in cooperation with Familia and Helsinki YMCA (TAT).
