Suomi-Intia-Seura ry is one of Finland’s oldest friendship associations. Founded in 1949 as Suomalaiset Intian Ystävät ry, the society celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2024. Initially the group attracted people interested in Indian philosophy and Gandhian ideas; today its activities cover a wide range of topics related to India and Indian culture.

Our goals are to:

  • promote knowledge of Indian culture;
  • act as a community for people interested in India and its culture;
  • strengthen cultural exchange and development cooperation between Finland and India.

The Society has about 300 members from across Finland. We regularly take part in events such as the Nordic Travel Fair, the Yoga Festival and the World Village Festival.

Annual events include:

  • Folklore – Treasures of India (spring)
  • International Yoga Day in Rovaniemi (21 June)
  • Diwali – Festival of Lights (autumn)

Suomi-Intia-Seura acts as a bridge between Finland and India, promoting friendship, cultural exchange and community ties.
