As an organisation, SKY maintains a politically and religiously neutral position and operates with an approach that promotes inclusion. SKY began its activities in 2019 as a working group formed by a few individuals with an immigrant background. Its work was influenced by the ideas of the social influencer and philosopher Fethullah Gülen. Since November 2023, it has operated as a registered association.

The association provides a platform where members and volunteers can organise various activities according to their skills.

Its activities are funded through different association grants, membership fees, and donations.
