🙋🏽 What does the Moniheli board do?

Moniheli's board

  • makes strategic and administrative policy decisions for Moniheli's activities,
  • is responsible for implementing the decisions of the General Assembly, and
  • is the employer of Moniheli's employees.

Board members make their expertise, i.e. their experience, knowledge and skills, available to Moniheli and primarily represent that expertise on the board, not their own background organisation.

🤔Who can be a member of the board?

A member of the board can be a reputable actor from the Moniheli network with the necessary skills, who is willing and has the time to participate in the work of the Board and to promote Moniheli's objectives in society.

A board member is required to:

  • an understanding of the importance of civic action and the role of civil society in Finnish society,
  • experience of NGO board positions and of working in multicultural settings,
  • an understanding of the democratic nature of association work and the multiple roles of an organisation like Moniheli in society,
  • the ability to work with cross-cultural communities,
  • at least a satisfactory level of Finnish and English for the handling of documents, and
  • basic IT skills for online work.
🎓Necessary skills

In order for the board to lead Moniheli as an organisation and a network, the Board members must have a combined competence in the following areas:

  • Knowledge and/or experience of Moniheli's activities and network
  • Promoting integration
  • Communication, public communication
  • Employment legislation and well-being at work
  • Financial management
  • Networking
  • External networks
  • Strategy work
  • Work for promoting participation
  • Public funding and distribution of grants
  • Own fundraising
  • Political lobbying, campaigning and advocacy
  • Human resource management/supervision skills

It is not expected that an individual board member will have experience in all of the above areas of expertise, the Election Committee evaluates the board's competence as a whole.

This year, we are giving particular emphasis to experience in:

  • Fundraising
  • advocacy work and
  • cross-sectoral cooperation
  • also, proactive approach to work.
