Sisi Majitu was originaly founded in Tanzania, in the town of Bagamoyo, to serve as a community that offers young people meaningful activities involving acrobatics, dance and drum music. The Finnish organization was founded in Jyväskylä in 2015. The founders of Sisi Majitu have studied music and dance in Tanzania, Bagamoyo College of Arts.
The goal of Sisi Majitu is to promote the visibility and accessibility of African performing and visual arts, promote wellbeing and build bridges between people from different cultures.
We dance traditional (and sometimes less traditional) African dances from Tanzania and its neighboring countries. We play authentic African rhythms on djembe, dundun, and mtonya drums. Our hearts beat and our feet dance to these rhythms, and many who join our group feel that Sisi Majitu is like a large family, always welcoming new members.
