Intercultural families refer to families in which at least one family member has a different cultural background. This means, that one partner or both partners were not born in Finland or have different cultural backgrounds. A child or children raised by a parent (s) with different cultural background, are also considered part of an intercultural family.
Familia belongs to the Diverse-Family network, which consists of ten different family associations representing a variety of types of families. The network aims for a society where families are equal, and every family can be proud of themselves.
Our core services:
- Peer Support Groups: in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Oulu, Tampere, and online
- Belingual: support, info and activities for multilingual families with children under school age nationwide
- MunDuo: intercultural group for 15–29-year-olds with multilingual or multicultural backgrounds
- Advice & Support: help with relationships, parenthood, and everyday challenges, including free-of-charge couples and family guidance. Support is also offered to professionals and students working with intercultural families
- Volunteering & Experts By Experience: promote the wellbeing of intercultural families in various events
- Events, Clubs & Workshops: webinars, lectures, discussions, and workshops where participants can meet people, practice languages, try foods, and explore cultures
- Weekend Camps and Subsidised Vacation: weekend camps and supported holidays offered in partnership with other organisations
