Grants
The grant programme is funded by STEA (Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations) through a member association grant. In 2026, the total funding available is approximately 119 000 euros.
Through the Moniheli Grant, we aim to:
- Provide resources to member associations to enable them to achieve their objectives
- Enable member associations to learn about project planning and management in practice
- Promote the well-being, integration and participation of migrants and their communities in Finland
The grant funding must be used for activities that promote health and social wellbeing, in line with STEA’s funding principles.
Who Can Apply?
Moniheli Grants are available to Moniheli’s member associations that:
- membership payments are in order
- Do not receive other STEA funding directly or through other umbrella organisations
- have no reporting processes still open from previous grants
A maximum of €8,000 per year may be granted to a single member association.
Focus Areas for 2026
In 2026, the Moniheli grant will focus on outreach activities targeting people in difficult life situations.
In all calls, grants must be implemented in accordance with the following themes:
- Everyday life and guidance to services
- Physical and mental health
- Education and employment
- Inclusion and empowerment

Moniheli's grants
Microgrants
Microgrants support small-scale, low-threshold events. A Microgrant can be awarded for events up to 2,000€. These grants are not intended for projects but for one-off or short-term events that foster meaningful interaction and support for the target group.
For what kind of activities?
- Group activities (such as peer support)
- Interactive information sessions with opportunities for questions and discussion
- Workshops
- Pop-up events

Grants awarded by Moniheli,
which require completion of courses organized by Diak
The selected member associations will plan, implement, and report on a small project together with students from Diak University of Applied Sciences course "Diversity and Multiculturalism in Social Care" .
The associations will learn about project and service planning, applying for funding, and managing grants, while receiving support from the students.
For whom? For Moniheli member associations who
- work in the social and health sector or are interested in developing their activities in this field,
- do not receive any other grant from STEA (project grant, grant to a member organisation of another umbrella organisation),
- are able to participate mainly in Finnish (some flexibility possible),
- have little or no experience in project planning, service development or applying for funding, and
- have time to participate in the programme activities (kick-off meeting, hackathon days, meetings agreed with the students, and project implementation between the end of October and end of November).
NOTE! Travel costs may be reimbursed for associations operating outside the Uusimaa region.
For what kind of activities?
- implementation during October–November 2026
- a small project (one or at most two events or activities)
- activities related to diversity and multiculturalism in social care, supporting the association’s learning about project planning and implementation
- the activity must not be pre-planned or tied to a specific date before the programme, as the idea will be developed together with the students
- maximum grant 3 000 €
Grant amount: Up to 3 000 € per project, awarded based on the project budget.
The grant will be paid to the association, which is responsible for managing the funds, reporting, and paying student fees according to tax cards (Moniheli will support e.g. with using Palkka.fi).

Grant use period: September-December 2026

Selection: 3-5 organisations will be selected, based on the need of the organisation for in-depth support and the suitability of the organisation's idea for the social work course.
During the Diak programme, member associations plan, implement and report on a single-event project together with students from the Project Management ja Innovation course at Diak UAS. The associations learn from the course and receive support from the students.
For whom? For Moniheli member associations who
- have joined before the end of the previous year
- are interested in doing social work
- speak English,
- have little or no experience of applying for or receiving a grant, and
- have the time to take part in the programme's activities (4 course days + planning and carrying out the small project with students).
For what kind of activities?
- a small project of one event or activity to be held during April
- pienprojekti (kertaluonteinen tilaisuus tai toiminta)
- activities of a social work nature (e.g. not cultural events)
- activities promoting the well-being of migrants and their communities
- the activity must not be predefined, as the associations are planning it from scratch together with the students
- total budget 2 500 – 3 000 €
Grant amount: Up to 3 000 € per project, based on the project budget. All selected associations completing the process will receive the grant.
Application deadline: Winter 2025
Grant use period: Planning in February-March, implementation in April, evaluation and reporting in May.

Selection: 3-5 organisations will be selected, based on the need of the organisation for in-depth support and the suitability of the organisation's idea for the social work course.
Citizens' Forum
Skaftuki service
Skaftuki is Citizens’ Forum’s online service used to apply for course and study group support and to complete related reports.
The Citizen's Forum offers Moniheli's members advice on planning courses, online courses, lectures and training events, as well as financial support for costs.
For whom?
- For Moniheli's member associations only.
- There must be at least 8 participants.
For what kind of activities?
- The course lasts a minimum of one lesson.
- For learning events, i.e. course, online course, training, lecture... There must be an instructor at the event.
- The course incurs expenses, such as paying a teacher's salary, renting a venue, or purchasing study materials.
- It can be face-to-face or online, or a combination of both.
- The topic can be anything.
Grant amount:
- The grant covers up to 50 % of the costs and up to a maximum of 25 € per lesson for Moniheli’s member organisations (lesson = 45 min). Time spent on course design or creation of teaching material does not count towards the number of hours.

- November. Decisions on supported courses are announced by the end of December.

The Citizen's Forum provides financial support for study groups run by organisations and communities. In a study group activity, a group learns new knowledge or skills together, without an instructor. Everyone takes responsibility for learning and for achieving a common learning goal.
For whom?
- For registered and non-registered organisations, and free action groups.
- The applicant must be able to ensure that the group meets regularly and to report on its activities and results to the Citizen's Forum through the SKAFtuki service.
For what kind of activities?
- Group activities, where participants learn new knowledge or skills together.
- There must be at least 5 people over 15 years old in the group.
- The group must have a learning objective for which all participants take responsibility.
- The group works together for at least 20 lessons (i.e. at least 15 hours).
Grant amount:
- The grant will cover up to 250 € of the group's expenses. Acceptable expenses could be ones related to, for example venue, wages, travel, materials, photocopies and advertisements.
- The group is responsible for covering all costs incurred by its activities. Once the report is approved, the support will be paid to the bank account indicated by the group.

Application deadline: The support can be applied for anytime for the current year until 31.10., provided that sufficient funding is available.
Grant use period: The group's activities must end by the end of the year during which the support was granted.

Selection: Peer learning groups are a priority for the grant. The grant will be provided for as long as funding is available during the year.

The Citizen's Forum supports training courses for immigrant adults designed by organisations with a Study Voucher Grant from the Finnish National Agency for Education.
For whom? Moniheli member organisations (and member organisations of other Citizen's Forum member organisations) that
- want to organise courses or training for migrants, and
- are able to report the number of participants and course costs using vouchers.
For what kind of activities?
- Education activities, meaning trainings and courses (not for other types of events - the activities must include a teacher or trainer).
- The funded courses must be carried out between February 1 and August 31.
- Participants are at least eight immigrants over the age of 15 with a municipality of residence in Finland (there may be more participants of different ages or backgrounds).
- Short courses lasting from 4 to 9 hours (6-12 lessons, a lesson is 45 minutes), or
- Long courses lasting at least 18 hours (24 lessons, a lesson is 45 minutes).
Application deadline: All year round
Grant amount: You can receive up to 800 € for a short training or course, and up to 1 600 € for a long course. The grant can cover all training costs, such as trainer's fees, study materials and, if necessary, the rent of the training room.
Grant use period: By the end of November. The information needed for the reporting must be provided by mid-December.

The network initiatives are a collaborative process where member associations of Moniheli jointly design initiatives based on cooperation. These initiatives should promote the well-being of the communities underlying the network and/or the operational conditions of the network's actors. The goal is to develop cooperation among member associations and their collaborative skills.
NOTE! STEA-funded associations can also participate in the process and act as partners in the initiatives. Initiatives can also be implemented without applying for funding.
For whom? Moniheli member associations who want to
- contribute to the common good of the Moniheli network
- broaden their network
- do better and wider cooperation
For what kind of activities?
- nonprofit activities, which promote social wellbeing
- activities planned and carried out fully cooperatively (at least 3 member associations involved)
- carefully planned in terms of cooperation
Terms and conditions: The proposal must be a joint suggestion from three member associations of Moniheli. One of these associations acts as the account association and is responsible for managing the grant and financial reporting. This account association cannot receive funding from STEA and can receive a maximum of 7 000 euros in Moniheli grants annually.
Grant amount: Maximum 4 000 euros per initiative.
Schedule: Ideation phase online from March 12 to April 13, co-creation event on April 13th online (register this link, proposals to be submitted to Moniheli by May 15, presentation of the proposals in connection with the network's Spring General Assembly on May 18.
Grant use period: 6/2024 - 12/2024, financial reporting latest 1/2024, presentation of the results in connection with the 2025 Spring General Assembly.

- want to organise courses or training for migrants, and
- are able to report the number of participants and course costs using vouchers.
For what kind of activities?
- Education activities, meaning trainings and courses (not for other types of events - the activities must include a teacher or trainer).
- The funded courses must be carried out between February 1 and August 31.
- Participants are at least eight immigrants over the age of 15 with a municipality of residence in Finland (there may be more participants of different ages or backgrounds).
- Short courses lasting from 4 to 9 hours (6-12 lessons, a lesson is 45 minutes), or
- Long courses lasting at least 18 hours (24 lessons, a lesson is 45 minutes).
Application deadline: For the year 2024, the application time is from December 5, 2023 to January 19, 2024.
Grant amount: You can receive up to 800 € for a short training or course, and up to 1 600 € for a long course. The grant can cover all training costs, such as trainer's fees, study materials and, if necessary, the rent of the training room.
Grant use period: By the end of November. The information needed for the reporting must be provided by mid-December.

Selection: The selection of courses to be supported will be based on the following criteria:
- The need for a course for the organisation has been carefully justified in the application.
- The plan is realistic, i.e. the learning objective of the course is achievable and the budget is clear.
- Supporting different course ideas that are implemented in different parts of Finland.
The Citizen's Forum provides financial support for study groups run by organisations and communities. In a study group activity, a group learns new knowledge or skills together, without an instructor. Everyone takes responsibility for learning and for achieving a common learning goal.
For whom?
- For registered and non-registered organisations, and free action groups.
- The applicant must be able to ensure that the group meets regularly and to report on its activities and results to the Citizen's Forum through the SKAFtuki service.
For what kind of activities?
- Group activities, where participants learn new knowledge or skills together.
- There must be at least 5 people over 15 years old in the group.
- The group must have a learning objective for which all participants take responsibility.
- Ryhmä toimii yhdessä vähintään 20 oppituntia (eli vähintään 15 tuntia).
Grant amount: The grant will cover up to 250 € of the group's costs (e.g. catering, materials, space rental). Read more: Eligible study groups and eligible costs criteria.
Application deadline: The support can be applied for anytime for the current year.
Grant use period: The group's activities must end by the end of the year during which the support was granted.
How to apply: To apply for course funding, you must first register with SKAFtuki. The application and reporting will take place in the system. For joint study groups, please first contact Pekka Kinnunen, pekka.kinnunen@kansalaisfoorumi.fi.
Selection: Peer learning groups are a priority for the grant. The grant will be provided for as long as funding is available during the year.
The Citizen's Forum offers organisations advice on planning courses, online courses, lectures and training events, as well as financial support for costs.
For whom?
- For all organisations. You don't have to be a member organisation of Moniheli, but member organisations will get a better rate.
- There must be at least 8 participants over the age of 15 attending the course.
For what kind of activities?
- For learning events, i.e. course, online course, training, lecture... There must be an instructor at the event.
- It can be face-to-face or online, or a combination of both.
- The topic can be anything.
Grant amount: The grant will cover 50% of the costs up to a maximum of 25 € per lesson for Moniheli's member organisations (lesson = 45 min). Selection:
- Learning events that already receive other support from the state are not eligible for course funding.
- The need for training must come from the participants.
- Training must be participatory
- The objectives of the training must be based on what the participants are interested in.
- Support for suitable learning opportunities will be provided for as long as necessary during the year.
