The first multicultural umbrella associations were founded in Finland over 20 years ago. Diversity in Finland has evolved significantly since then, and the place of multicultural associations in the third sector is now established. Officials recognized the important role of umbrella associations already in the early 2010s. Umbrella associations provide essential support services to smaller multicultural actors, and work as a link between them and the rest of the third sector in an ever-changing working context.
